OTTAWA UNIVERSITY SPECIAL COLLECTIONS (FRANK J WHITE COLLECTION, RUBY OHLSON-MAGEE COLLECTION, MEEKER COLLECTION)
Dr. Frank J. White was a 1898 graduate of Ottawa University. He received a MA and a DD from Rochester Theological Seminary. He married Iva Thompson in 1901 and they went as missionaries to China, where they started and organized Shanghai University. The White Collection was given to Ottawa University as a bequest in 1957 in memory of Iva White. The Collection includes special books about Chinese Art, a chinese table and chairs and a selection of Chinese vases.
The Ruby Ohlson-Magee Collection is a collection of Chinese dolls, clothing, household goods, currency, photographs, wooden figurines and personal effects acquired by Ruby in China. Items in this collection were given to Ottawa University Archives by Ruby Ohlson-Magee, a 1926 BA graduate of Ottawa University. Ruby taught English at the Boys Middle School on the campus of the University of Shanghai between 1928-32. Ruby left China in Spring 1932, shortly after the Japanese incident.
The Special Collections Catalog contains the Meeker Collection and also the library's special books. The Meeker Collection includes Jotham Meeker's books and some of his correspondence and one or two artifacts. The Special collections books are books from the 18th, 19th and early 20th century and include special art books. Patrons can search the collections, and may request use of these books from the Library Director and are only able to use this books in the Myers Library. No checkout is allowed.
