Description Brush and pen holder consisting of a mahogany stand; ceramic, cylindrical container; and mahogany lid. The ceramic container design consists of a three color red bush peony and magnolia blossoms on blue under glaze, and includes celadon green rock enamel. The magnolia blossoms of white clay were superimposed on the already blue painted, glazed, and fired piece and then glazed and fired again. This type of pottery was only made in the Ching Dynasty in the reign of Kang Shi and is very rare. There are two other such specimens in England in private collections. The mahogany base is carved and has five feet. This part is cracked and some pieces of the wood are missing.
